Ryan's WLTN blog
The story of the dream that lives

So I have been trying to get to this blog for a long time now. I have got a minute, so here it is.

A phrase from a book I have been reading called “sun stand still” by Steven Furtick can really some up the story about how all of this happened…..meaning how we got the opportunity to be signed. The phrase goes something like this “sometimes you have to let your personal dreams die, so that’s God’s dream for your life can live in you”. Something like that…..

A couple months ago. January to be exact. I felt like WLTN had come to a crossroads. We hadn’t really had alot of the opportunities we had when we first started the band and things just didn’t seem clear. It didn’t seem like there was a future in this anymore. I had been wanting so badly for God to use us in ways we could never imagine, but It just felt like I got to a point where I would say “God, do you really want us to continue We Light The Night? Nothing’s happening God?”. Some of our original members had went to college, we got other people to fit in, but it just wasn’t happening. It really almost all just came down to me a couple months ago and I was going to start down a path of doing something I was not prepared to do….And that would be recording everything myself. I was just getting too antsy! I felt like God had given me all these songs and they weren’t doing anything for the body of Christ. They were just sitting in my notebooks…..

So around this same time, we normally start a 21 days of fasting and prayer to begin the new year. So what I decided I would do and what we ALL should normally do when we get into these types of situations….PRAY! So I started to pray about this and see what God really wanted to do with this band. Our heart from the very beginning has been to unite with whatever crowd we play in front of in powerful praise and worship and to inspire youth and young adults to go out in change their world for Christ…So, I started praying exactly that, “Lord, give us the spark and passion that we had when we first started doing this and help us to be the people that you want us to be”…..

You know, If you got enough faith in God, he can surely move ANY mountain in your way. It didn’t take long, but 3 days after praying and fasting, God answered my prayers. Chris got a call from a producer we met back in September. His name is John Forbes. He came down to help out Ricardo Sanchez when we had him at our church and WLTN got the opportunity to play. Little knowing to us of how much stuff this guy has produced, just amazing artists!…Anyways, he calls Chris and tells him “Chris, ever since that day I saw you guys open up for Ricardo, I have not been able to get you all out of my head. Me and a friend are planning on starting up a record label and we are really interested in signing you guys”! It didn’t take long after that conversation that we got the amazing opportunity to get signed to “Waymaker Records” and we just want to share this with everyone, because you are as much a part of this as we are!

Soon after that, Chris got signed as a solo project, I got signed as a solo project, We Light The Night got signed and the rest is not history, but the future. We have almost all the original members back and we are looking ahead to this HUGE adventure that God has place in front of us.

My point is, with enough audacious faith and prayer, God can do anything! Nothing is too big for our God! Nothing can stand in the way of our God! and Nothing is higher than our God! If it can happen to us, it can happen to God! Ask God for the unimaginable and believe and have faith that it will be done in Jesus name!….Sorry, started preaching there. LOL!

Stay tuned to the WLTN channel and continue to #startthemovement.

Sooo….We’re Back!

I know, I know. It has been a while since we have been together. I hope we find you well.

For those that have been with us from the beginning and for those just starting the movement, we are back and ready to kick some DB (Devil Booty) more than ever! It’s been a while since you have really heard from us and here’s why

Lost vids really lost!:

So the reason we haven’t posted up any videos recently is because we literally lost them. I will take the blame because I though it might be a good idea to take the flip camera that we had all of our videos on, on a snowmobile ride……It turns out that wasn’t such a great idea. LOL. Anyways, we should be posted a new/old video up on fb and youtube soon from the surge tour we did in the summer.

Fasting and Prayer:

We have really been praying to God about what he really wants us to do with this band during a time of fasting and prayer we just recently had at the church we attend. We had alot of doubts and not alot of faith to continue doing this work for different reasons. I could really say the band was in jeopardy of stopping everything a couple of weeks ago. However, God really open up our eyes and open up doors we would never imagine during this time and soon and very soon we will be bringing some good news to share with everyone. I wish we already can, but we gotta keep it hush hush for now.

Are you guys ever gonna record another album?

I have been working on a lot of demos right now. We got over 20 new songs ready and will soon be getting those out to ya. I will try posting some demos up on our bandpage starting this week, but actually recording full versions of the songs will have to wait just a little bit longer, because that is part of the good news that I am not able to share yet! :( but :) that it is good news anyways!

I hope to keep with these blogs guys, cuz its about to get crazy up in here!

We’re back and we’re not going anywhere!

Surge Tour! + More

Ok, so It has been like a really long time since I have been blogging, but I thought I would let you know what is happening and what God is doing through this movement called “WE LIGHT THE NIGHT”. Well, In less than a week we will be heading off to the “Surge Tour” with pastors Bill and Anne Moore (my parents) for an awesome time of family restoration. It will be great nights for all ages to attend. We are expecting God to do great things on this tour. We aren’t going out to make our name famous, but we are going out to make God’s name famous. We will be stopping in Floresville, TX, Cleveland, OH and 3 stops in Canada. If you are in the area come, stop by and worship with us. We have added some real cool elements to our worship set, so don’t miss it. Right after the tour, we go back out in a week to Friendswood, TX than we are in the studio starting our first EP called “The Love”. Real Excited about getting back in the studio. Back out on the road to Houston, TX after that and finally home for a while.

God just keeps on Surprising me. I know none of us deserve these oppurtunities. We are just a couple of guys from Brownsville, TX that just wanted to take the gifts God gave us and turn it into something that could make a difference in someone’s life out there and inspire Christian youth to go out and make a difference in their world. Real excited about this future we have intertwined with Jesus. Stay posted for all future details. We would love to hear from ya. So hit us up on facebook. www.facebook.com/welightthenight. See ya soon!

God Bless,

-Ryan-

Senses

Ephesians 6:10-17

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

It has been a while since I have posted anything, but I wanted to talk about senses.

The other day I was cutting the grass (something I love to do LOL) and this is something I hadn’t done in a long time because me and my wife just moved into our first home and now I have grass to cut! Well, I didn’t realize that me cutting the grass would cause my allergies to get all messed up. I wasn’t fully prepared to cut the grass. I didn’t realize that maybe I needed to wear a mask because I have allergies. I didn’t realize that I would lose some of my natural senses. I couldn’t smell anything for about a week and my whole body felt drowsy and week. It wasn’t a good feel not having one of my senses for a while. Everything just felt different and nothing seemed right. I wasn’t thinking clearly and I was doing things that I didn’t even realize I was doing. When I finally got all my senses back I felt like I could take on the world! I felt like I could battle anything that came my way and I also realized that next time I cut the grass I would  wear a mask on my face so that wouldn’t happen again

This should also be the same when It comes to our spiritual senses. We should always be on guard, watching the devil’s every move and have our spiritual protection gear on at all times. Like it says in Ephesians 6, “put on the full armor of God”. Guard your spiritual senses so you can fight the devil when he comes your way. And you will be able to take on any Battle. Let’s do it together. Hope this helps everyone out there!

Listening Skills

James 4:8

“Draw near to God and he will Draw near to you”.

When I think about music in general, it takes alot of listening skills. There are certain notes that need to fit inside of the circle of the key that you are playing in. You have your dynamics, crescendos, decrescendos, bass clef, treble clef, half notes, whole notes, etc. that you need to listen to in order to play the intricacies of the composition set before you. When I think about my relationship with my wife, it takes alot of listening skills. There are things that can be important that I miss for not paying attention to her for 5 seconds that could get me in trouble. LOL. Just the other day she asked me to do something for her and I was only half-way paying attention when she said it. Well, being a guy I am not a very good multi-tasker and I was doing something else when she asked me to do this. I didn’t realize how important it was to her, but now I realize that everything she says to me should be equally important. :)

Same thing as when it comes to our relationship with God. It takes listening skills. Most of the time when we talk to God, sometimes we are the ones doing all the talking and not really listening that he wants to say something to us too. God says things to us all the time and sometimes when he is talking to us, we are too busy with our own stuff to listen to him. If we would just take time and SHUT UP and say “God….just speak to me” who knows what amazing things would happen to us.

Music takes listening skills. Having a wife takes listening skills. Having a relationship with God takes listening skills. Do you got em?

Distractions

Proverbs 4:23
Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip. Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust.

I consider myself to be an easily dirstracted person. When my wife walks into the room, I am easily distracted. When I get playing with electronic devices I get easily distracted. When I am writing songs I get easily distracted. When I am in God’s presence I am easily distracted. There are so many things in life that we can be distracted by……

I was listening to someone that I consider to be my second pastor. His name is Brian Houston and he is the Pastor of Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia. The reason I consider him to be my second pastor is because I got to attend hillsong college for 2 years and I got to hear him speak quite a bit and I haven’t stopped listening to the guy. The other day on his TV program he was talking about distractions and he said something very profound as he was speaking. He said “Don’t let people distract you from people”. Meaning don’t let people who talk negativitty, talk down your church, talk down christianity, talk up rumors, calls mischief, to distract you from our goal as Christians. Which is people, loving people, taking care of people, leading people to Christ. I think somewhere down the line people who call themselves Christians have been caught up with all of the distractions around them, that they have just become comfortable in going to church a couple times, reading their bible once in a while or saying a prayer to the big man up stairs on occasion. We got to step out of that comfort zone because God wants us to do so much more. He doesn’t want us sitting, he wants us standing. Don’t let the distractions around you cause you to forget about that next door neighbor, that best friend, that co-worker, that classmate. Let God bring you boldness and don’t let people distract you from people!

Directions

So the other day I was on the road with WLTN and we were on our way back home from Fayetteville, AR. After several hours (16 to be exact) and several stops, I needed to stop once more because that is just how it goes on the road. At this point, I was just ready to get home and I didn’t care how, I just knew I needed to go south. As I got back on the road, I saw a sign that said to go south, but I ended up on this frontage road that just seemed to be going on forever and I figured that was the way to get back on the expressway. Once we got a couple miles down I knew something had to be wrong, because there were no entrance ramps to get back on to the expressway. We got a little more down this road and I see a sign in the distance….It says “Dead-End Road Ahead”! So I just drove all of this way thinking I was going in the right direction when all along I was headed to a “Dead-End”.

To make matters a little funnier, Me and my wife went in a separate vehicle than the band because we wanted to be comfortable on that long drive. We had also gotten quite a bit ahead of them on the road. When we were coming back they were stopped @ a rest area and saw us pass by going the wrong direction. So they started wondering if that was us going in the wrong direction because of how far we got ahead of them. So Marcus and Brophy bet-a-buck on it and he called me up to see if that was us and he was right, so he became a dollar richer through this funny situation. Anyways……

My point is that sometimes in life we start going down a road that we think is right for us and we don’t really consult God on it. We just think that an open door is an open door and we just run through it, when God has signs everywhere telling us what direction to go all along. It might not be the most obvious sign, but it that is sometimes the case in the things of God. He wants us to look deep in our heart to find out what direction he has for our lives.

So the question you need to ask yourself is “What direction am I going in? God’s way or my way”.
